6. Complete the following exercise
Wheaties box - 3D Tool
Current skills:
- Basic PS and ILL skills
- Have had one lesson on 3D tool in illustrator (including extruding and mapping symbols on to faces).
New skills:
- Slice Tool in Photoshop (teacher will demonstrate)
Task:
- Open "wheatiesBox-whole.jpeg" in PS
- Slice up the image up into 6 pieces (only worry about faces that are visible when box is folded)
- Use the "Fixed Size" marquee tool, guides and slices to ensure all of your sides are in proportion
- Combine the two top faces within the same top face slice. Repeat for the two bottom faces so they are within the same bottom face slice
- Export each slice as a separate JPEG image
- Place the JPEGs you have saved into an ILL document and convert them to symbols (drag into symbol panel)
- Only drag in six faces you need
- Make sure you give the faces an appropriate name (i.e. front, back, left, right, top, bottom)
- Draw a rectangle for the Wheaties Box using the following dimensions - 215.9 x 314.5mm
- Extrude the rectangle 85.9mm using the 3D tool
- Map the appropriate symbol onto the corresponding face
- Rotate and scale each symbol as needed
Finished?
- Google "packaging unfolded" and choose another design to create.
