Typography
2. Versatile fonts – choose a set of 5 fonts located on your computer that you would keep if you could only ever use 5 for the remainder of your life. Utilise the five you have chosen in an Adobe Illustrator document (write the name of the typeface using the font).
3. Business Identity – choose a typeface for each of the following
businesses. The typeface should convey
the image that is suitable to the industry, clientele and also the products and
services that the business would likely conduct.
- A classy
Italian restaurant (Little Italy
Italian Cuisine)
- A
professional lawyer firm (Simon and
Finch Lawyers)
- A
professional sports team (Sydney
Sharks Football Club)
- A gossip
magazine aimed at female teens (Peggy)
- A housing
construction company (Rockford
Constructions)
- A rural
radio station (Sticks FM - 95.5 FM)
Place the six logo names in an Adobe Illustrator
document.
- Save your file as a PDF
4. Type Relationships – choose three pairs of typefaces that go well with
each other. Using Adobe Illustrator,
utilise each pair in a logo design to demonstrate how they could work well
together. If you wish, you may use
business identities from the previous exercise.
The pairing combinations must demonstrate one of the following:
- Font variant
(Bold, italic, condensed)
- Contrast (weight, scale, width, spacing, serif/san-serif
5.Trending typography
Find at least 5 interesting and inspiring typographic
works.
6. Type as texture
Create an image in Illustrator using only the text
tool. The subject of the artwork is your
choice (eg. Self-portrait).

In Illustrator you can place the type on to separate layers then transform to create and image like this. You can also use a reference image by placing a photo on a separate layer adjusting the opacity to 50% and tracing this image with different type face.
